Ronald J. Rivett
Ronald J. Rivett and Dennis A. Brown, long-time friends and business associates, co-founded the Super 8 Motels System in 1974 and opened the company’s first motel in Aberdeen, South Dakota, on October 1, 1974. Mr. Rivett was also the founder of Super 8 Builders, Inc., Super 8 Management, Inc., Midwest Motel Supply, Inc., and Super 8 Aviation, Inc., all support companies of the original Super 8 corporation. In April of 1993 The Rivett Group, L.L.C., was formed and in May, the 1,000+ property franchise portion of Super 8 Motels, Inc., was sold to Wyndham Hotel Group, LLC, formerly Cendant Corporation, Inc., formerly HFS Brands, Inc. At the time of the sale, The Rivett Group, L.L.C., retained ownership of 49 motel properties.
In 2011, Mr. Rivett and his grandson Ryan J. Rivett, started a new extend stay franchise hotel company named My Place Hotels of America, LLC, which currently has 12 franchised hotels open and operating in MT, ND, PA, SD, WA and WY with several others in the development and construction stages.
Mr. Rivett is the Chairman of the Board of The Rivett Group, L.L.C., a franchisee of Super 8 Motels, Inc. and Intercontinental Hotels Group, with hotels located in SD and WY. He is Chairman of the Board and CEO of Super 8 Motel Developers, Inc. with 13 hotels located in NC, VA and WV. He is also a partner/owner in RGB Development, Super 8 Developers II, Legacy Management, LLC, Penn Lodging, L.L.C., R&R Rivett Investments, L.L.C., Rivett Family Investments, L.L.C., RJW Lodging, LLC, Utah Hospitality II, L.L.C. and Pacific Northwest My Place Hotels, LLC with motels/hotels located and being developed throughout the United States. Besides his continued involvement with the development and operation of motels/hotels, he is also involved in various other businesses, including, Aberdeen Gas and Oil, L.L.C., Gould/Rivett Real Estate, Legacy Builders, Inc., Legacy Design Group, LLC, Legacy Development, LLC, Office Building Partnership, Paramount Village Retail, LLC, Quest Office Development, L.L.C., Quest Aviation, Inc., Quest Australia Productions, L.L.C., Quest Productions, L.L.C., Quest Alaska Lodges, Quest Hospitality Suppliers, L.L.C., Rafter R Ranch, Inc., Rivett Refuge Preserve, Rivett Farms, Inc., Rivett Ventures, LLC and Rivett Buildings, L.L.C.
Mr. Rivett graduated from Northern State University with a degree in business in 1963 and received an honorary “Doctorate of Humane Letters” from NSU in 1990.
